About Us
Based at Kingswood Grove in Douglas, Isle of Man Honda officially opened just before the start of the TT fortnight at the end of May, but is now fully up and running and enjoying a very busy time.
John McBride, General Manager of Isle of Man Honda, brings a wealth of experience from the car trade to the dealership, as well as extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for all things with two wheels.
John said, 'Although my professional background is the motor trade I love motorcycles and motorcycling. I’ve competed on the legendary Isle of Man TT course and I’m still currently a travelling marshal for the TT and Manx Grand Prix races. It was always my ambition to run a motorcycle dealership so when this opportunity came up it was too good to pass up!'
As the dealership was being set up, the choice of manufacturer was an easy one to make. 'It had to be Honda,' continued John. 'They are the number one manufacturer of motorcycles in the world and they have such a broad range, with each machine benefiting from that solid Honda reliability. They are the best. It’s as simple as that and being the only Honda motorcycle dealer on the island, we knew it would be attractive for the customers too.'
Although the Kingswood Grove premises initially needed refurbishment work, John explained, 'Despite the work which we had to carry out on the building, these were the ideal premises. All our staff are new with some even coming from the mainland to work here, with others – like Sales Manager, Chris Kelly – being from the island and having plenty of local knowledge - perfect for any future events we want to put on. Best of all is that every member of staff has plenty of enthusiasm and a solid motorcycling background.'
With the dealership now in full swing with both sales and servicing of motorcycles, Isle of Man Honda plans to host a number of events and open days for local motorcyclists. John continued, 'What I love about bikers is that they’re friendly and it’s a real fraternity – whatever your gender or age. Bikers will just come and have a coffee at a bike shop to chat to staff or meet friends. You don’t get that in the car industry. Now we’re established, we’re looking forward to putting on a range of events and open days to really welcome the Manx bikers to Isle of Man Honda.'
